Gezellig Interiors is an interior design practice led by Annique Heesen, based in the beautiful Bay of Plenty, New Zealand. From our studios in Rotorua and Cambridge, we collaborate with clients across New Zealand and the South Pacific. Our passion is creating homes filled with love—spaces that feel relaxed, comfortable, and deeply personal. As a proud mother and passionate interior architect, my journey has been a rich tapestry of learning and growth. With Dutch roots steeped in a lineage of architects and builders, I embrace a hands-on approach to design, ensuring collaboration with builders at every step.
Motherhood has blessed me with the joy of two spirited children, Remmi and Hendrix, who have inspired me to create spaces that foster family connectivity and adaptability. My love for reading and insatiable curiosity about history has profoundly influenced my appreciation for travel, enriching my perspective.
In our increasingly hectic world filled with overwhelming visual stimuli, I am deeply committed to crafting homes that inspire, nurture, and bring people together. The designs from our studio are intended to ground individuals in their sense of belonging, helping them navigate and connect with the world around them.
I am a fierce advocate for preserving historical craftsmanship and champion small artisans. By doing so, we create unique finishes for our client’s homes that beautifully narrate the story of the makers’ contributions, adding a special touch that resonates deeply.
